Design for Utility Building with Renewable Energy Generation
Completed June 2009
Features:
The vault is a new 7,200 square feet utility building used to house electrical equipments. The normal function of the electrical equipment in the vault is to share half of the airfield’s circuit load with an existing older vault. The circuit of this vault is also designed to be able to sustaining 100% of the air field load in case the old vault goes offline. Due to the proximity to the ocean and adjacent flat terrain, the noteworthy aspect of this project is that the site is viable for wind power generation. This is a pilot program and DOT will be evaluating the series of 16 rooftop mounted mini turbines for consideration in future projects.
