Air Field Vault at Honolulu International Airport

Location:

Honolulu, Hawaii

This project consisted of a 7,200 square-foot, single-story concrete electrical vault building as part of a major airfield electrical upgrade project to provide redundant power to the Honolulu International Airport. A study confirmed that the site would be a good candidate to study harness the wind as a renewable power source and would be a good test bed to gather data for mini wind turbine systems. Sixteen turbines were installed along the exterior wall and has been consistently providing power to the facility’s equipment and lighting since its commissioning.
