With 64,000 square feet of interior space, the Kapahulu location is the largest store of the Safeway chain in the nation. Safeway is embracing a new full-service concept, besides grocery and produce, the store houses and hosts a large selection of ready to eat items, a pharmacy, as well as postal, banking, and other services within the store. In addition to the store itself, there is an additional 12,800 square feet of rentable retail and shop spaces. Architects Pacific, Inc. is the local architect of record and provided services for permitting, and construction management for the development of a vacant site. The project also combined adjacent sites, parking and made traffic improvements along Kapahulu Avenue.

Rehabilitation & Repurposing of Existing Buildings

R.M. Towill Corp is a multi-discipline engineering firm specializing in planning, civil engineering, survey/photogrammetry, construction management, environmental services, and wastewater projects. Their projects have touched all corners throughout the Pacific since 1930. The existing complex is a series of dated building piecemealed together between 5 separate construction periods. The complex consisted of various separate tenants, just to name a few, there is a bank, multiple doctors and dental clinics, and even a barber shop. The tenants’ spaces on the ground floor were retained and operated throughout the construction period. Architects Pacific, Inc. put together a plan to combine all spaces and enclose the existing lanais on the second floor. This is to become the R.M. Towill's new corporate headquarter. In addition, API also included space planning for their various departments, new air conditioning, plumbing, parking, and a complete facelift of the exterior. An elevator and removal of steps for level changes have been incorporated for compliance to the Americans with Disabilities Act.

The Wailea Town Center comprising of four buildings, two are one story and the remaining two buildings are two story. The entire center provides a combined total of approximately 40,000 square feet of commercial space on the ground floor. The parking for the commercial tenants and customers are disbursed around the buildings for convenient drive-up service. Luxury residential units are located on the second levels of the two story buildings. The residential suites consisting of three bedrooms/three baths, and two bedrooms/two baths units range from 2,641 to 3,532 sf. Each unit is air conditioned, and appointed with luxurious interior finishes and amenities. The residential units are accessible by either an elevator or one of the two staircases for each of the buildings. Each residence is accompanied with its own private garage and one reserved open parking space. Private swimming pool and deck area is available for the exclusive use of the residences.
